2012 Annual Walnut Council Meeting

2012 ANNUAL MEETING OVERVIEW

July 29-August 1, 2012
Holiday Inn Urbana/Champaign
Urbana/Danville, Illinois

The annual meeting will include a Monday field trip to Forest Glen Preserve near Danville where we will see and discuss many things: crop tree release, density studies, HTIRC research plots, a "walk through" soil pit, butternuts, deer browse, a forest conversion area, invasive species ID and control, chestnut plantings, crown openings in a natural stand from storm damage. On Tuesday we will tour Brownfield Woods, a virgin woodlot near Urbana and see demonstrations by local woodworkers. The meeting will also include a chainsaw safety seminar by expert Joe Glenn and a dynamic Fossil Forest presentation.

The agenda will be finalized in early 2012. Check back then for updates.

All cancellations and requests for refunds should be received by Friday, July 20th. A $10 per person administrative fee will be deducted from the total. Refunds may not be available after this date, check with Liz Jackson at 765-583-3501.

EXHIBITS

We have lots of space for exhibits in the banquet room where all indoor sessions will be held. Tables will be provided and will be available for the entire meeting starting on Sunday afternoon. We ask exhibitors to place an item of value in the silent auction in lieu of an exhibit fee.

SILENT AUCTION

The silent auction has become an enjoyable tradition at our meetings. We encourage companies, state chapters, and others to consider donating items to the silent auction. Proceeds support the Walnut Council Foundation, a charitable foundation supporting research and education, so your donations to the silent auction are tax deductible.

To reserve your exhibit space or donate to the silent auction, contact Liz Jackson at 765-583-3501 or jackson@purdue.edu or mark that option on the registration form.

SPONSORSHIPS

Meeting sponsorships help keep registration costs down and can be an effective mode of advertising for individuals, organizations, and companies who promote the culture, growth, and utilization of black walnut and other high value hardwoods. Liz Jackson (765-583-3501; jackson@purdue.edu). Sponsors will be recognized by signage at the meeting and in the Walnut Council Bulletin.

2011 ANNUAL MEETING REVIEW

7th Research Symposium
July 31-August 3, 2011
Madison Marriott West
Middleton, Wisconsin

Approximately every 7 years the Walnut Council invites scientists with the latest research on hardwood forestry, black walnut in particular, to present at the annual meeting. Although similar to our usual meetings, the research symposium has more technical talks than most annual meetings. Symposium proceedings will be available online in early 2012. Walnut Council members will be notified and will have the option of viewing or downloading online or ordering a hard copy.
