Join our Campaign to limit the movement of walnut material

Online sales of walnut material from the west are potential sources of Thousand Cankers Disease infection in the eastern US. At least two of the known eastern infestations occurred from woodworking products from the west. Restricting movement of this material could be a key to limiting eastern infestations. Walnut Council is initiating a campaign to ask eBay to stop sales of these products.

Websites like eBay readily list bark-on walnut material from the west for sale. They have been asked to prohibit sales but have declined to date. eBay has a number of other items that are restricted from sales (see overview of restricted items: http://pages.eBay.com/help/policies/items-ov.html). Their “Plants and seeds policy” requires the seller to determine from an (outdated) list of state regulations whether the item is quarantined and prohibits the sale in those cases (see EBay Plants and seeds policy: http://pages.eBay.com/help/policies/plantsandseeds.html ). This policy of putting the burden on the seller is ineffective in preventing the movement of infested material, and the Walnut Council would like eBay to prohibit these items.

We are asking our members to contact eBay, and respectfully request that they prohibit the sale of bark-on walnut material. Below we have listed contact information for mail, phone or email. Please consider contacting them and making this request (once or on a regular basis) until the policy is changed.
